Building Permits

A building permit is required for most new construction, alterations, and repair work on any lot within the city limits.

Contact

Specialized permits cover docks, electrical work, and water/sewer tanks; all other projects require a standard building permit. New homes in the low-pressure sewer zone must connect to that system.

Building codes

The city has adopted the 2006 International Residential Code and the 2006 International Building Code, along with local amendments for public safety.

How to apply

Submit a completed application with the $35 application fee (cash, check, or credit card) to City Hall — in person, by mail, by email, or through the after-hours drop box. Approved permits are available by the Friday following the Council meeting.

Fees

  • Application fee: $35
  • Environmental impact fee: $500 (for holding-tank installation, in addition to permit fees)

Contractors

Contractors must register with the city each year. Registration requires a fee and proof of liability insurance. The city maintains a current list of registered contractors. Registration is not an endorsement of a contractor’s work, qualifications, or experience.

Application forms

The forms below are the City’s current PDFs. We are working to make all posted documents fully accessible; if you need one in a different format, please contact City Hall.
