Economic Development & Growth Committee

About the committee

The Economic Development & Growth Committee is a continuing advisory committee that advises the City Council on responsible economic development, community growth, long-range planning, and infrastructure readiness — with the goal of strengthening Linn Valley’s tax base and quality of life while protecting residential character and community trust.

It’s advisory: the committee studies issues, engages the community, and makes recommendations. It does not approve zoning or permits, spend City funds, or bind the City.

What the committee does

• Help develop and update an economic-development and community-growth strategy aligned with the City’s comprehensive plan.
• Identify desired businesses, services, housing options, and community facilities based on documented community needs.
• Evaluate commercial-development opportunities — access, utilities, zoning, traffic, design, and compatibility with nearby uses.
• Recommend policies, incentives, infrastructure priorities, partnerships, and grant opportunities for Council consideration.
• Support transparent outreach to residents, property owners, businesses, and public agencies.

Serving on the committee

• Five to seven volunteer members, chosen for a balanced mix of residents, property and business owners, and community perspectives.
• Members generally reside in, own property in, or run a business in Linn Valley.
• The Mayor nominates and the City Council appoints members in open session; regular terms are two years (initial terms staggered).
• The committee ordinarily meets monthly or as needed, and meetings are open to the public.
• Members serve without compensation.
