About the committee

The Parks & Recreation Committee is a continuing advisory committee that advises the City Council on parks, recreation, trails, community events, public spaces, volunteer programs, and related facilities — to improve health, connection, accessibility, and quality of life for residents of all ages.

It’s advisory: it studies matters, engages the community, and recommends. It does not spend City funds, hire staff, or bind the City.

What the committee does

• Inventory City parks, recreation assets, and facilities, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Recommend a practical parks and recreation plan with priorities, estimated costs, and measurable community benefits.
• Gather public input on recreation interests, age-group needs, accessibility, trails, playgrounds, gathering spaces, and community events.
• Recommend volunteer projects, partnerships, sponsorships, grants, and phased improvements for Council approval.
• Coordinate with City staff, public safety, schools, and community organizations when authorized.

Serving on the committee

• Five to seven volunteer members representing varied ages, neighborhoods, abilities, and recreation interests.
• Members generally reside in, own property in, or run a business in Linn Valley.
• The Mayor nominates and the City Council appoints members in open session; regular terms are two years (initial terms staggered).
• Meets monthly or as needed; meetings are open to the public.
• Members serve without compensation.
