Water System Modernization

In progress

Frequently asked questions

Where does the City's water come from now?

The City’s old water treatment plant has been retired. The City now purchases treated water wholesale from the City of La Cygne — a more reliable supply that meets state drinking-water standards without the City having to operate an aging plant. A new water tower provides storage and steady pressure.

Do I have to connect to the new system or get a meter?

Properties with installed water tanks and accessible water lines qualify for meter installation, including eligible seasonal RV owners. Residents who prefer to continue occasional tank filling without monthly billing may ask about opting out. Final eligibility is subject to Council review — contact City Hall with questions about your property.

Will my water bill change?

Metered service means billing is based on the water you actually use. Specific rates are set by the City Council. For current billing questions, see Pay Your Bill or contact City Hall.

When will the project be finished?

The project is ongoing. Major pieces — the transmission main, booster station, and water tower — are in place, with distribution-line work and meter installation continuing. Follow the Updates page for the latest progress.
